A friend of ours has a unique problem that has me asking you experts out there for help. He has gone through and purchased 2 water pumps for his TT (making a total of 3 in his possession) and cannot get water to any of his faucets, shower or toilet. This is what he has done up to now:
- Hooked up to shore water, everything works well. - Replaced hose line that runs from water tank to the pump, this eliminates the possibility of either a kink or small crack that would allow the pump to cavitate. - Checked valves to make sure that are in the proper position - closed 3 way valve under sink - Taken each of the water pumps out, manually prime each pump on the inlet side and turns on, each pump will purge the water out that was primed on the inlet side but no more. - Checked for any cracks, splits in supply line, none observed. - This is a 2015 travel trailer I suggested he hook up to 110 shore power and try the priming method again. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks! |

Has the water tank been filled with a hose ? A city water connection may not fill the onboard tank.

Something doesn't add up so we have to ask the obvious questions:
The pump should not require priming. I assume this is not an RPOD. |

Thanks Charlie.
Thank you for asking the obvious as these are often overlooked. The TT is a 2015 Rockwood mini-lite. 1. Yes, last year everything worked well. 2. Yes, the FW tank is full. 3. Pump is hooked up correctly. Suction side is hooked up to a new hose running to the bottom of of the full FW tank. Output side runs to cold water / hot water tank. 4. Small glass filter was cracked so he took that out and installed a piece of hose instead / I think he ought to replace this with another filter, obviously it is there for a purpose. 5. Not sure what you mean but he has done this with all 3 pumps in his possession (see above post). He has run each off of power that runs through the trailer, they will purge any water that he has physically put into the suction side of the pump. When he hooks up the hose to the FW tank, no water pumps through the pump. 6. Not sure on this, will have to ask. Why does the fitting need to be clear? 7. I will ask him about this as well but I believe there is only one fitting on the suction side, the one that connects the hose from the FW tank to the pump. Thank you for the checklist, when I hear back I will give an update. |

A few years back, I had a similar issue of no water pumping from the fresh water tank. Of course, I did no troubleshooting and ordered a new pump. This did not fix the problem (of course). Then I decided to take a systematic look at things (as I should have in the beginning). ![]() As it turned out, algae had started to grow in my tank - to the point that it clogged things up. There is a small inlet filter, in the tank, just before the threaded hose fitting that feeds the pump. Unscrew the hose and look carefully. You may see the lip of a filter. It resides inside the tank and is the same color plastic. It is about 2-3" long and filled with many very small slits. I pried it out gently with a small screwdriver. While it was out, I bleached and flushed the tank several times. |

Here is something I posted back then. Post Mine was algae however, it could be dirt, etc. I wish I had pictures to show this filter. |

One other test would be to run a short piece of hose directly from the pump to a bucket of water and see if it pumps all the way through the faucets. The same test could be run using the winterization valve. Somehow the suction side is open or the output side is blocked. Maybe the winterization valve is defective. |

Great minds think alike. Already asked him to do the first test, will have him try the 2nd per your recommendation! Thanks again.
