I'd like a wall switch for the overhead light. At least one when you come in the door.

I think a wall switch is a good idea. However, even when dry camping we leave a small night light plugged in under the sink by the cabinet in our 171. It's not a huge amount of light but if you're camping where it is very dark it's quite helpful and does not draw too much power

What kind of night light are you using? If you are dry camping, how are you powering it? Did you put a 12 volt outlet there, or are you running an inverter? |

Great idea, but in the meantime I'm thinking about a small solar powered light with motion detector to pop on when the door is opened at night. Ambient daylight inside would be enough to power it for such limited use. My son just gave me an MPOW solar motion sensor light with 8 LEDs I've been using at the house, so I'll move it to the 179 and try it. A 4 LED version should work just as well.

Are you talking about putting the motion detector light inside or outside? I would think that inside would not work very well. After all, I don't want a light turning on if I need (or my wife needs) to get up during the night. I'd rather have a switch by the door. Perhaps one of the little round puck type LED lights that can just be tapped to turn on and off would suffice.

Inside and down low, just for enough light to safely step in and find the overhead light. Could then be turned off for the night. The model I'm going to try could be hung on a small screw or hook, or even placed on the floor or counter of the 179. We're taking our first long trip (10 days) starting Thursday so I'll try it out and post the findings. I also like your idea of the little puck type lights, and Gregm's idea about the night light.
