The original mattress is right on the wood. While you have the old mattress out, you could do something like seal the wood with a polyurethane finish and/or cover the wood with some sort of contact adhesive plastic, but what you do is your option.
Have you gotten up the nerve to install the door window yet? |

So was I. I did it anyway. You can do it too.
Take the door off and support it on a couple of sawhorses. That will help greatly. To remove, take the door off the hinges, leaving the hinges and screen attached. Be careful and place some protective padding on the wheel well or you will end up scratching it like I did. ![]() When you put the window in, have the outside of the door facing down. Support the door and window from underneath. That will help when you go to start the screws. I found that a power drill/driver worked best for starting and driving the screws. When the thread catches, it will draw the two parts together and compress the rubber seal. That will make it watertight. The hardest paret for me was getting the screws started. I am just glad that lots of extras were included. ![]() |

Measure twice (or three times), cut once. Use the trim ring to verify placement and size of the opening before you cut. You can make a cardboard template (which is what I did) and use that to help with placement and marking of the opening location. Cover the door with masking tape and mark on that and cut with it in place to protect the door. I cut from the inside. Drill a starting hole inside the marking for the opening and use a fine-toothed blade in your jigsaw. Go slow so you cut smoothly. Use a thin and not a wide blade so you can pivot at the corners easier.
If anything, cut the opening a bit smaller and enlarge it carefully as you go. You definitely don't want to cut it big. It is easy to cut a bit more out. You can't easily put material back if you cut it too big. |

If you want to be safe, just cut it open outside of the pod and let er rip! You will need a helper to get the mattress situated in the pod however.

Jon, if that is anything like the one we got from Camping World - mattress rolled up like a jelly roll. Stand back when you cut the plastic liner, it will explode in front of your eyes and lay flat on your luan platform where the bed mattress is supposed to be. Pretty neat.
