Calendar Event: Picking up R-pod Posted: 15 Apr 2016 at 9:30am |
The bucket list trip is fast approaching! I have never had a camper before but have always wanted to go to Denali. On Tuesday I pick up my R-pod in Hamilton, OH. Any advice on what to check during the inspection, what questions to ask, how to drive my first 1000 miles towing a camper and anything else I am too ignorant at the moment to ask about would be most welcome! It's on this forum I learned about voltage testers and weight distribution hitches and other things I had never heard of before and I thank you for all the counsel you have already provided!

Congrats!! Welcome to the group! Have them walk you thru everything, and try everything from your stove, frig to the a/c shower, sinks tv/stereo. Inspect every inch. It takes a couple hours. but the tech person expects to demonstrate everything. Also when he is demonstrating alot of the items, pull out your cell phone cause you will be lucky to remember 1/2 of what he tells you. I find that the pods tow really well!
Enjoy!!

Thanks! I'm glad to learn that the tech person expects to demonstrate everything, cause I certainly need all the demonstrating I can get. My brother is coming with me to supervise -- I'll ask him to record while I concentrate.

Also have them work with you on putting the r-dome on and how to fold it back into it's bag. The television and the a/c /thermostat control can also be tricky.

I would recommend going to a nearby and relatively empty parking lot and practice driving and parking (especially backing up) your new Rpod. If you've never towed a camper it can be kind of intimidating the first few times. Good luck with your new camper...you're going to love it!

Thanks! In my excitement I had forgotten there is 'some assembly required' of the R-dome. (Even though I've watched a video of the process already, lol.) And video can't compare to live demonstration.

And thank you, too, Pete. I've towed an ATV trailer which is probably half as long as the Pod. And you have reminded me that I had thought about mirror extenders for my Ridgeline which is a compact truck. This is something the dealer will probably have in stock?

Congratulations and welcome to the group!
If you have any questions, once home, please ask. There are some very smart & experienced members here...always happy to help.
The dealer probably sells mirror extensions - if you feel you need them. Though Walmart may be less expensive.

Thanks, Dave! I think I may stop at a Walmart en route cause mirror extensions couldn't hurt. And my Shepherds' names are Nicky and Cushla.

Walmart has just about everything you need to get started. It has been helpful to me as a noob. The only problem is for finding anything left during the RV Spring Rush!
