Topic: 177 AC issues Posted: 12 May 2015 at 7:33pm |
I have a 2014 rpod 177 and the ac unit has started turning off by itself. It will run for a while and then just turn off. Fan and all. It's never done this before. Normally the fan continues to run when the compressor kicks off. Once it kicks off you have to let it sit a while before it will come back on. Any ideas what could be causing it?
A bit of backstory to go with this. Approx 6 to 8 months ago I inadvertently plugged into a 240 current because the previous owner had miss wired the rv plug. Lesson learned. Always check my plugs before plugging in. Anyways, the converter and tv were fried and had to be replaced. Until now everything seemed to be working fine. We have camped numerous times since then and the ac worked fine until now. Not sure my current problem with the ac is related but I figure it could be.
You guys were awesome at helping me find a new converter months back. I'm hoping someone here can help me troubleshoot before I take the trailer in for service. I'd much rather fix this myself if I can.
Thanks in advance.

Is your fan control set to "auto" or "on"?

Well on the thermostat there are only three options. Fan, cool and furnace with an on off mode button. I've been putting it on cool. I don't see anywhere to change the fan mode!

Went back and looked. When in the fan mode it was set to low. I'm pretty sure this is how it's been since we got the pod.

Ok, for the digital thermostats, Lo, Hi, = On, as compared to mine. Your fan should run continuously in this mode, with only the compressor kicking in and out. Using the +/- button, in fan mode, try selecting hi, or auto (AU) and see how it runs.. it could just be a loose wire, at the thermostat, or a/c.

Thanks. Yeah after looking at it I figured the fan should stay on in lo and hi mode. Auto it kicks off when it reaches the set temp. I've tried all three modes. I've checked the wires at the thermostat and can't find anything loose.
I checked my filters and found they were quite dirty. I clean them after every trip but apparently forgot last time. Can a dirty filter cause the ac to short cycle and cut off? After cleaning them it seems to be working ok now, but I haven't run it enough since cleaning to see if it truly is fixed.

CLOSE THE VENTS THAT ARE ABOVE THE AC::)) yOUR AC IS SHORT CYCLING. FOR SOME REASON THE ENGINEERS PUT THE T-STA RIGHT BELOW THE AC>> IS IT BLOWS ON IT. IT WILL SHUT OFF BEFORE IT SHOULD. THEN IT WILL GO ON AND OFF WHEN IT SHOULDNT. SCOOTER.

IF YOU WANT IT TO SHUT OFF LIOKE A AC AT HOME. WITHT THE FAN IN AUTO ( AU) MODE, THE UNIT WILL SUT OFF AT THE TEMP YOU HAVE IT SET AT. IF YOU GO TO FAN MODE, AND TURN THE FAN TO L0W OR HI. WHAT WILL HAPPEN, IS WHEN IT REACHED THE TEMP YOU SET. THE COMPRESSOR WILL TURN OFF, BUT THE FAN WILL STAY ON. TE COMPRESSOR WILL GO ON AND OFF AS IT NEEDS TO:)
