Calendar Event: Looking for the right pod for my truck. Posted: 15 Jul 2014 at 10:23am |
Hello everyone im looking to buy a pod but need advice on whats best safest for my truck to pull. I have a 2009 ford ranger 4.0 v6 auto (factory tow package) with a tow max of #6000 lbs and tongue max of #600. I know those numbers dont mean much because that is for something towed with a front of 50 sq ft. I wanna be conservative with what I tow and know the pod front is much bigger than 50 sqft. Would i be fine with any of a 171 172 176 or a 177? My preference is a 172 or a 177 and ive seen a 2015 172 locally with a shipped weight of 2600 lbs. Can my truck safely tow these? I live on vancouver island and it only has a few big hills which are passed in 15 mins and most my trips would be 200 kms or less. Also it would be 3 people in the truck my wife young son and I. Thanks in advance for any info.

Seems to me that you would have no problem pulling any of the Pods with that rig. I pull a 178 behind a BMW with a tow rating of 3500# with no problem. BTW-Vancouver Island is beautiful. Lucky you.

Should be no problem. I towed a 172 with a Honda Pilot 4WD 3.5L rated at 4500# with little problem. I limited my selection to the 172 because we spend time in the Colorado mountains at 10000' and gas engines suffer at altitude. With the 4.0L you should be fine with the 172, 177, etc. My 4.0L Tacoma handles a Camplite 21RBS with a dry weight of 3500# plus lots of add-ons. Plan on using a WDH; you'll want it.

Ditto you shouldn't have any problems. We tow our 171 with a Dodge Grand Caravan and have towed up and down the east coast without any problems, we are rated for 3,600 pounds

I'm not sure what you're tow capacity is but the year and whether you have a tow package matters. My ranger is the best towing model ranger they ever made. Lots tow much less. Thanks to all who have answered me so far.

The r-pods will slow you down you will know its back there, I agree your truck will tow the r-pods just a little on the slow side. Trucks are made for working so durability should not be a problem.

Im used to going slow my last rig was a 1982 toyota motorhome. 4 cylinder on hills would only do 35mph. It was fun but my it was gutless.
