The last day of Summer and the first day of Fall were absolutely gorgeous around here, and I'm glad we were able to enjoy them by podding at Myre Big Island State Park. Myre Big Island has become my favorite southeast Minnesota camping spot. It's got nice sized campsites, good paths for hiking and biking, lakes for canoeing and kayaking, great restrooms/shower facilities, and it feels remote even though it's right on the edge of town with easy access to stores and restaurants.
This was just a two-nighter, so we didn't bother bringing bikes or our canoe. I'd almost forgotten how relaxing it can be to just sit back at the campsite and soak in a beautiful day. Other than to take our dogs for a few short walks ("hikes," if I want to sound more adventurous), that's about all we did. I think that just kicking back made time pass a little more slowly, and that's just what I want when the tempertures are in the low 70's with just the slightest breeze, the sun is bright, and the sky is that unbelievable blue.
