Those cooking times for the trash can turkey are more realistic. I just found the same cooking times on a Google search. Wish I had seen this before, oh well, next time it will be even juicier at 2 hours.

Wonder why that would be.  Here is the cooking times I used to go by:

  Cooking Times:

10 lbs 50 mins
12 lbs 1hr
14 lbs 1hr 25mins
16 lbs 1hr 40mins
18 lbs 2hrs 5 mins
20 lbs 2hrs 15mins
22 lbs 2hrs 25 mins

I reloaded the pictures for you. They are now there.

Thanks, Gerald!  I think that this would be perfect to make!

What was the stake made out of?

Never mind the question of the stake.  I see it's a dowel.  What would you suggest as a replacement if you didn't like it?

A friend of mine used a one inch pipe, drilled a hole in the pipe and inserted a smaller piece of pipe so that when it was driven into the ground, the "T" shape was about 6 inches from the ground. This kept the turkey from sliding down, I think this is a better solution than the ball of foil which I used.
