Hello again,
Just get one issue figured out and another comes up. I tried to get the hot water tank to light by flicking the switch inside the unit. I also set the outside switch to on. I'm using battery power and also hooked up to house power at the moment to test it. The DSI light at first was coming on and off and trying to fire up, but now is not coming on and not hearing it trying to fire up. Any suggestions? |

If you turn the switch on inside the red light will come on , when the light goes out it means the propane is lit.

There are two independent water heating systems, 120Vac and propane. If you are connected to 120 and the outside switch is on then the 120Vac heating element will be on. If that is making the tank hot enough then the propane system won’t try to heat the water.
So turn that external switch off so you’re only trying to heat water with propane. Run the hot water out and see if the propane system works. If not, let us know what you’re seeing. |

Ok,
I've turned the outside switch to off. Hooked up propane and made sure lines were clear and working.(lit the stove) Waited 1/2 hour, ran the hot water tap and still cold water coming out. The outside vent is also clear What concerns me is that originally when I was using battery power, the CSI light came on and off trying to ignite. I went outside and the cover felt slightly warm so at one point it must have tried to ignite. But now CSI doesn't come on at all and I can't hear it trying to light up. |

So if you turn on the water heater switch inside, the Dsi light doesn't turn on? If it does, then you should hear a series of clicks. If you go outside, you should smell propane near the water heater, but don't get to close incase it lights and whoooosh, no eyebrows. If you smell propane, It's probanly a bad igniter.

Yes, that's correct.
I turned everything off to start again using propane. Once that was all set up and I switched back on inside, the CSI light did not come on and didn't hear it trying to ignite. I also have tried to hit reset again but those don't seem to do anything. I even took the rubber part off to see. |

Are you sure you have the winterizing bypass valves set correctly? The tank could be full of hot water, but if the valves are set to bypass you'll get nothing but cold water. TT

Ok. Here is the service manual. The dsi propane troubleshooting guide is on page 19. That should walk you through it. You’ll need a voltmeter.

Ok, I shut everything down. Hit the switch inside, CSI light came on, waited 45 min. Still no hot water but the styrofoam surrounding tank is warm to touch. In fact the plywood was as well.
I must have the valves mixed up but if I change them, I do not get any water from hot tap. It's not very straight forward. Not sure how to download a picture on here to show the position of valves. |

Do you have three valves? If so, the ones leading to the top and bottom of the tank should be parallel to the lines and the one in between should be perpendicular to the line. Some may have only one or two valves. Someone who has one of those would have to give you the correct information about the valve(s).
