Topic: 190 Awning Missing. Posted: 20 Jul 2019 at 4:33pm |
Anyone see this? Posted on another forum, interesting, interested me on how this could happen.
"My brand new RPOD 190 (used 4 nights) was missing its awning when we pulled in the driveway last night. The electric Thule awning was extended and stowed once.
The dealer isn't sure this is covered by Forest River which I just can't believe. The awning was completely stowed while we were traveling but must have slid off on the drive home. We backtracked a bit but never found it by the side of the highway.
My husband thinks it was not screwed in at all - just sitting in the railing.
This has sure taken the joy of owning a shiny new RPOD - something I've wanted to buy for 5 years. UGH! I actually miss my pop up now....we never used the awning on it because it was too hard to assemble. But at least it never came off. "

Wow. I took a quick look at the Thule manual and it appears that the awning rotates down into wall brackets and then a screw is inserted upward on the underside to hold it in place. I'd speculate that the screws were either never inserted or not tightened. Anyone with one of these awnings want to comment?
That would make it a workmanship error, which FR should be expected to cover, but of course the dealer can't commit to that without hearing from them first.
That's a really big thing to fall on the road, sure hope it didn't cause an accident.

Our manual Thule Awning is secured to the mounting rail by 6 screws from the underside.
Where might one find the original postings about the lost awning? Enqueuing mind wants know the outcome.

Wow.
That should be covered. I'd take pictures of the mounting holes or slots....it should be obvious if something broke or signs of no bolts or screws ever having been there.

TCJ - The Forest River Forum, under "R-PODS". Poster says there was no indication awning was ever secured to trailer side.

Offgrid - They posted they backtracked and couldn't find the awning. AND - they said there was no evidence of any attaching hardware.

FB R-Pod Owners forum reports two other instances of awnings falling off, or so reported. I am not a FB user, if one of you are and are interested, might check.

Just speculation but someone perhaps came back from a chemically induced mood adjustment session during lunch break and forgot to install the screws in that awning.

I am the missing awning person off my 190. Just found this site.
No evidence of any screws attached on the underside. I agree - someone just forgot to insert them for whatever reason.
We took pictures and are just waiting to hear back. I’ll send updates when I hear back from FR.
This is a real bummer. Yes - could have caused a serious accident.
Check your awnings folks. This too could happen to you!!

Just found out that Forest River is going to cover this mishap.
Word to the wise - if you are buying a new/and or used RPOD with an awning, make sure to check that it was mounted correctly and actually attached to the trailer. We just watched the demonstration on how to extend it but didn't look for mounting screws underneath it. Apparently, Forest River or our dealer didn't either.
After doing some research, this has happened to owners before. I am not the first (or probably last) person this has happened to. Bad quality control at the factory. One owner lost theirs on the drive home from the dealer!!!
Such an odd thing to have happened to us.
