Calendar Event: Oregon Inlet Campground,NC Posted: 22 Oct 2018 at 6:11pm |
We just spent 6 days at Oregon Inlet Campground on Cape Hatteras, it was great! They have added 26 water/electric sites there since our visit last fall. Fishing was a bit rough as the ocean was pretty churned up with a ton of seaweed floating by. Made our annual trip to alligator rivers wildlife refuge and saw numerous bears, snakes, deer, osprey and hawks.

Wow! Didn't think NPS would ever "RV" any of their sites! Would love to see that done at Frisco CG. Glad you had a great trip....didn't make it to OBX this year but need to go soon....somehow. Love this place.

Yeah, they just added those pedestals at Oregon Inlet a couple months ago. There are plans to add them at some of the other campgrounds too but the person I talked to couldn't tell me when or which ones. I'd suggest calling and checking back in the spring.

Very interesting. There are some sites at Frisco I'd still take without hookups over some sites with hookups. I kinda hate to hear this actually. It's bound to make the campgrounds attractive to more people and therefore harder to get reservations. Hookups are nice though!

Depends on the time of year. Midsummer ya pretty much have to have a/c here, it can be insufferable without it.
They did a good job at Oregon inlet with segregating the pedestal sites from the non electric ones. The pedestal ones are nearer the highway and farther from the beach. I guess the theory is that at the electric ones folks will have their a/c on and windows closed which will reduce the road noise.
They do expect a lot of demand for the pedestal sites once everyone knows about them. Book early if you want one.

Oregon Inlet did 26 or 27 sites to water/electric. The ranger told me that after they close I at Thanksgiving they are going to do another 26-27 site with water/electric, she advised that they were going to complete Oregon Inlet and then more on to the other parks ( she thought).

They were charging $35.00 per night for the w/e sites and $28 for the non hookup sites.during the nights we stayed, there were always w/e open at least 3-5 sites each night.

Its $7 extra for the electric sites on top of the $28 for a regular site (or $14 is you're an old guy like I am). No senior pass discount on the hookups, I guess the electricity doesn't know how old you are. $21 a night for a hookup site is a real deal on the OBX, if its summer and you need the a/c.

$35 is an incredible deal compared to Camp Hatteras or Hatteras KOA at $100 a night. No, you don't get the swimming pool and mini-golf, but I would rather have the more spacious sites and nature around me!

Yeah, do you really need a swimming pool when the ocean water temp is 82? The sites at Oregon Inlet are pretty open, unlike Frisco, so while there's more space around you than at the private places there really isn't much more privacy. I still would pick Frisco over Oregon Inlet in the spring and fall when nightime temps are comfortable. Besides, Frisco is all of 5 minutes from my house, so it's great camping without the driving, can't complain about that!
