Topic: Getting Your Dog Used to Podding Posted: 17 Jul 2014 at 8:34am |
Our 17 pound Lab/Spitz travels with us and loves camping. In fact we put her on a leash outside when loading because she wants to follow in and out as we load the camper. My suggestion would be to personalize your camper with your dog's things, and by all means feed her inside to get her use to it. Because we kept kicking the water bowl, I finally came up with the idea of a small bowl of water placed into a large bowl of same design. Now if we bump it, the water will be contained in the larger bowl.

I have the same problem as shroomer, because my labradoodle does not like the bare metal steps...carpet or a roofing shingle would help him with more confident footing. Since he's getting on in years, I might even look into modifying with a double step...with secure carpet. Otherwise, once he's in, he's super happy on his bed in front of the fridge of my cousin's 179, a perfect fit for him.

Carpet on the step(s) helped our dogs a lot.

I have an English Bulldog, he is a little heavy. I have a small step that allows him easier access to bed, yes he can sleep on bed:)

I guess we were lucky in that our pups took to it immediately. They are so attuned to camping that they can tell when we begin staging the gear and follow us everywhere lest they be left behind! They particularly enjoy lounging in the r-dome watching the camping world go by...

Honestly, the dog is the main reason I got the camper. Most motels don’t like dogs, and Espechially pit bulls! I could have stayed in a lot of nice hotels for the price of this thing, but refuse to leave my baby. Now we have the best of both worlds, comfort and the family stays together. My dog will go anywhere just to be with us.

+1 Although my bulldog is now 11 she still manages to get up on the bed although I do have to help her off. I don't know if I could sleep without the snoring (white noise) in the background. Just started camping last year and she's a trooper.

He is the biggest sweetheart. Just likes attention. In 1972 I was the handler for Chesty the mascot at USMC, MCRD, San Diego, what a trip that was:)
