Thanks for the excellent illustration, Ghosthawk. I've added them to my list!

I'm with coopercdrkey.
I had one package that was pot metal gold in color, with hooks that made a nice flush fit.
The 7/8ths screws I bought for plastic anchors fit them perfectly.

As he said predrill hole. snip off anything that makes it longer than 7/8ths of an inch. Slip it in the hole, tighten until firm but don't crank on it. Just a nice snug hand tight.
Then insert your screw to hang whatever your going to hang.

I have had success using #8 plastic dry wall anchors. Cut off the self-tapping point and pre-drill a hole of the proper size, (that would be the same diameter as the hole that would have been created by the self-tapping point). This prevents the anchor from penetrating too deeply. Then secure your modification with #8 wood screws. (If #8 screws are not sufficient to secure your work, you may want to reevaluate your design...)

When I put screws into the lauan walls I used screws similar to a sheet rock screw. I was careful not to tighten to tight so that it would not pull through the lauan. You need to be careful there is no electrical wires or water pipes where you are using screws. It doesn't hurt to use a drop of wood glue where the screw enters the wall.

I see so many people putting screws into their walls - I'm so paranoid about that! I'd be curious to know what size screws are recommended, too!

I want to do some modifications in my R-Pod 178. Does anyone have a general description of the best places to safely place mounting screws and the materials one would be drilling into to place screws for bracket mounts holding less than 5 pounds?
