179 replacement speakers

   I replaced my 2016 178 speakers with some Pioneer's and I think they sound much better. Others say you need an amp, and not just speakers but I think the pioneers have a much better/deeper/richer sound. 

I beefed up the installation with speaker "spacers" and I used the 1" wall anchors.  This made the mount larger in diameter than the original speakers and fresh holes.  The spacers also increase the depth.  HTH.

	I just went to my local Brandsmart and was dismayed to find that the new Pioneer speakers I bought that have a 3" depth will not fit in the ceiling opening! The allowable space is about 1.5" As far as I know, improved sound for speakers like this are pretty much in direct correlation to the size of the magnet and the depth of excursion of the woofer. Has anyone found speakers that are a big improvement that would fit a 1.5" depth? Thanks
