Anyone know the specifics of the differences between 18 and 19 models? I'm pretty sure the bathroom sink is a different shape. I haven't heard of anything else.

So I am getting the 2018 R-POD 171 on Monday. The dealer just sent me an email asking if I want these options installed before I pick up. The surge protector is $750 (ouch). Looking for your opinions on all 3 of these options. Thanks!!!!!
1. Slide Toppers - catch debiis
Catch debris that fall from tree coverage and prevent the slide out seals from being clogged up and damaged by sticks, pitch, acorns, and leaves when the slide is opened and closed.
2. Aeroflo Vent Covers All season covers that go over existing crank up vents. These covers allow you to leave vents open all the time and most importantly open in the winter to stop moisture and condensation build up throughout winter storage. The best thing about the covers is you never have to worry about rain getting in if you leave the vent open by accident.
3. Surge Protection with Hardwire Proper surge protection is very important due to the fact that a lot of your campgrounds have insufficient and antiquated electrical grids. Campers are also more demanding nowadays having multiple A/C’s and full sized appliances. The biggest problem we are seeing is low voltage. Low voltage is the result of all the campers trying to pull power at the same time. This forces your appliances to run off less volts than they were designed to and in turn will work harder and will eventually damage or ruin thousands of dollars worth of electrical equipment in your camper. Surge protection works a lot like a powerstrip for your computers at home. Once a problem is detected your surge protector will kick off all power and will not restore until the issue is fixed. A flush mounted LCD display will notify you of any problems. It will also detect other issues like mis-wired pedestals, or damaged wiring that occurs often because power pedestals at campgrounds are left out in the elements.

All 3 are nice to have. However, if you are at all "handy" you could very likely buy/install them yourself and save a lot of money. None are that difficult to do. PS - Congratulations on your new Pod! ![]() |

If you have the MaxxAir vent, it is dead simple to install one yourself. It locks on with 4 clips on the lugs that project up from the base. Don't spend money on installation of that one. That should come free with the purchase given that it takes a matter of about a minute to install one. You will likely find a better price online also. The slide topper is something I would like to get eventually. I made one that is not quite as convenient, but it was a whole lot less expensive. As for the power protection, I use a plug-in model at the post so I can see if power is good before ever plugging in the R-Pod. It is not as sophisticated as the one you are considering, but it is also much less expensive.

The 171 does not have a slide, a slide out cover isn't needed. The 2018 sounds like the better choice I would install other options myself they are easy to install and as has been mentioned you would save a lot of money installing them yourself. Enjoy your new 171 that is the model we had very easy to tow.

Regarding the surge protector - I'd like to learn more about this statement.... "I use a plug-in model at the post so I can see if power is good before ever plugging in the R-Pod." What is a plug-in model" and can I get more detail about this? Sorry to be naive - just learning.

I have a Progressive Industries model 30XL surge protector. My model only protects against surges and not brown outs. More expensive models do both. As mentioned above, I also use it to test the campsite electrical before I begin setting up, then I plug my trailer 30 amp cord into the surge protector and leave it connected while I’m at the campsite. I also use a bike lock to secure it to the electrical pole. Below is a link for research purposes.
