Topic: 179 Dinette removal for dog crates Posted: 08 May 2018 at 11:30am |
I'm looking to remove or modify the dinette in the 179 (I haven't purchased yet) to convert the area for 3 36"x23" wire dog crates.
These crates will NOT be used while driving, only while feeding the dogs or when I step out temporarily.
If you have advice, and better yet, pictures, please provide.
Thanks

Just be aware that you sit on the bottom of the slide when in the dinette seating, so you can't get rid of anything below the cushions.

Also know that any changes you can't undo may affect your ability to sell the trailer if you choose t\o do something different.

Any changes we make will be done after we've had the pod for a while. Don't plan on making any drastic changes immediately or maybe not at all, it will depend on we feel in the pod

We only deal with one crate, but we just put it up on the bed, or between the dinette seats.. but we had a 177... In a 179, and needing space for 3 crates, I would definitely go with them on the bed, OR, I would build a removable platform on top the settee base that was big enough for the 3.. Our wire crate folds up, so that helps..
gratuitous puppy and crate picture..

Well, here I go upsetting the 179 folks. If I needed space for dog crates I would pick a model with a forward dinette. Remove the two side benches, leave the forward bench. Store them away, so they could be put back. I would have dog crates, a bench and wouldn't be messing with a slide out dinette. You could preserve some storage that way

Mike, when you say forward dinette, do you mean like the 177 or 178?

Yes. I saw a 178, the couple removed the entire dinette and replaced with 2 RV recliners and ate off TV trays. Personally I would leave the forward seat in as it provides the storage area in front of Pod, but you could work around that. Most of my 179 friends like the aft kitchen, but for me I cook outside mainly.
