Calendar Event: Dual dump tanks Posted: 07 May 2018 at 9:34pm |
Although we are experienced travel trailer folks, this is our first R Pod and confronted with a gray and black tank dumping system. Since there are two separate sewer lines to the dump area, how do you deal with this? Do you use a "y" on your sewer hose lines? Thank you for any info.

You just drain one tank at a time, black first, then rinse the hose with the grey. I suspect you are asking about how to manage sewage while at a full service campground, with sewer hookups. In that case, leave the grey hooked up to the sewer and let the black tank fill at least half way before draining it. The momentum of all that stuff rushing out will help move it out. You don't want to leave the black tank hooked up to the sewer or the tank will tend to crust over. Yuck. Sorry.
It's pretty easy to go a week without dumping the black tank. With the grey hooked up to the sewer you can take as many long showers as you want! TT |

Welcome and congratulations! Yes, I concur on leaving the gray connected and open while at a campground with full hookups. Since you are already experienced with TTs, you should already have a good idea of how to deal with the black tank to keep it from having issues. One caveat to the above advice though is if you intend to dump the black tank on leaving, close the gray tank valve and let some liquid accumulate in the gray tank so it will be available to flush out the hose after draining the black tank.

Great advice. That was a question I didn't even know I had!
Here's one I do know I have. After boondocking, I'm assuming I don't dump Cousin Eddy style. Are there public dumps sites available?

Camping World, some truck stops, some rest areas in some states are all possiblilities. In my yard are two pipes, both of which connect direct to the town's sewage system. I just run my hose to it. I'm not sure what "Cousin Eddy style" is, but probably not.

I was thinking of Cousin Eddy from "Christmas Vacation". He dumped in the curb rain water drain. Pretty funny scene.
I do have a camping world very close by. I will give them a call. Thanks!

There are smartphone apps, like Allstays Camp & RV, (a paid app), that will let you search for dump stations and a zillion other things. Many campgrounds have dump stations. Even if you don't stay there many places will let you pay to dump.
Yeah, I don't know what Cousin Eddy style is either. You get to learn your way around after a while. Sometimes a dump station can be a little hard to find, but I've never not been able to find one. TT |

IMHO that would be a good excuse to go camp at a place that does have a dump station. You could dump upon arrival and again, upon departure. A "bonus" would be the time spent enjoying the park or facility in between the 2 dumps! |
