I missed the start of this thread, and have to agree with those who agree with the winterizing post we all have been basing our winterizing methods on. I assume the critic does not use antifreeze in his system. In that case one may want to have everything open. I drain and blow out everything, leave the drain for the fresh water tank off and the anode out, run antifreeze through every line and fixture. I have never disturbed the other low point drains since they will be filled with antifreeze. In six winters no problems and we have real winter here as well.
I think we just bumped into another internet expert. Not the first time. |

Sorry to hear of your troubles but I really doubt techtrek's advice cause harm. I follow same process and left my system sealed all winter with rv antifreeze cirulated throughout, and poured into drains to maintain seals, including the toilet to keep the flush seal lubricated. I just de winterized and everything works perfect. I suspect your expert is the dingaling here. If you google the subject you'll find many many articles advising to reinstall drain plugs and leave in to contain the rv antifreeze. Below is an article from: http://rvservices.koa.com/rvinformation/rvmaintenance/step-by-step-rv-winterizing-checklist.asp
I hope it works out better for you next year. Step By Step RV Winterizing ChecklistMark J. PolkThat all to familiar time of the year is here again. Leaves are falling from the trees, and the grass is dormant. The summer flowers are gone. The days are shorter and the nights are colder. Fall is upon us. Fall is my favorite time of the year. After a hot North Carolina summer I look forward to this time of year. It has its good and bad points. It’s good that I don’t have to cut the grass for several months. It’s bad that I have to close our pool for several months. It’s good that I don’t have to run the air conditioning, but bad that we will soon have to turn the furnace on. Fall is also the time of year you need to decide if your camping season is over. Parking your RV for the winter requires some preventive measures so it will be ready to use next spring. You’ll also be glad you did it when you don’t have costly repair bills due to the damaging results of winter. Now the question is how do you prepare it for winter, and who will be doing it? If you’re like me and you enjoy performing the routine maintenance on your RV, not to mention saving a few dollars, the “who” part is answered. As for the “how” part, this checklist is the same one I used to make our Winterizing & Storing video. I feel it is the easiest and most effective way to winterize your RV. Before you get started there are a few items you will need to have. These items can be found in most RV parts stores:
Now we can winterize the RV water system to protect it from freezing. Be sure to read your owners manuals for unit specific winterizing guidelines. Follow the steps below that apply to your RV.
This checklist is a basic guide that was intended to assist you in winterizing your RV. As with many other checklists it would be impossible to cover every RV. It is extremely important that you read your owner’s manuals for unit specific winterizing guidelines. |

I had to add a post to this string. First I read all the forums that pertain to Pods. This is the best, the most responsive and in my opinion the most knowledgeable. It is real. The group here ranges from the least experienced to the most experienced, no equal. I don't think you can come here and be thin skinned, bring your issue and take your answer. End of the day, no where on the interweb will you find a more knowledgeable group, a more inventive group or a less vindictive crowd. It is geared to us. I'm a fan and pleased with what we have, thanks to the folks who run it. Nuff said.

Even before I bought my first RPod, I lurked on this site and read every one of Techntrek's "manual" entries. After my purchase I have followed many of them in maintaining my two Pods and even keep printed copies of things I might encounter when on the road and away from the internet. I have found this resource to be invaluable and much easier to search than some of the other sources of info that have popped up on the web in the last 4 or 5 years. Thank you to Techntrek and the administrators who have invested untold hours to developing and maintaining this site. Yes, I have messed up stuff, but I would never attack this site or members for my failures.

Wow, How could this happen to only one individual after Techntrek's post of over 8 years that has been followed by hundreds of podders? Hmmmm,

I am impressed at the restraint shown about this guy's post. A 'newbie' with the vast experience of 4 posts criticizing techntrek! As someone already posted, if something went wrong - First, look in the mirror! The next post from this character should be one of abject apology to Techntrek, and to the rest of us for wasting our time.

CharlieM, I'm sure we can work out a mutually beneficial licensing arrangement. I'll have one of my attorneys contact you to work out the details. 😎
