Calendar Event: Over charging battery Posted: 22 May 2016 at 4:45pm |
The WFCO converter has a built in 3 stage charger (bulk, absorption, float). I leave mine plugged in all winter and have had no problems. I check/fill as needed during the winterization process. I do check them on warm days during storage but, have never had to add water.
I suppose that it is possible that the WFCO is malfunctioning and is stuck in "bulk" mode???

Pods have a pretty decent 3 stage charger. Ouyr pod has been plugged in since July of 2011, except when towing or boondocking. Never an issue.

Leaving a battery plugged in all the time can overcharge the battery if the charger does not have a float mode. Much better to use a trickle charger.

Leaving the POd plugged in all winter will not overcharge the battery. However, the water level should be checked a few times during the winter because the water can evaporate.

It is not the acid that boils away, it is the water that dilutes the acid. How do you know it is ruined? Did you try filling the cells with distilled water up to the inside ring? What voltage do you get after you fill the cells and leave hooked up to the charger overnite? If the battery is as old as the trailer it may be worn out anyway.

Hello, we have a 2010 175. How do I get the battery to not overcharge and keep the battery acid from boiling away. I ruined my new Napa battery leaving it plugged in over the winter. I thought it would have a charge controller.
Thanks, Cory in Reno
