That's a good idea about opening the hot water pressure relief to make sure it has water before turning on the heater. I was paranoid that I would burn up the element by not having water in the tank.
Thanks |

It is not safe to assume water at the tap means a full tank. The whole purpose of the bypass system is so you can get anti freeze at the taps without filling the HW tank. The best way to tell is to open the pressure relief valve at the top of the WH.. If you get water/pressure, you know you have water in the tank. Either the pump, or city water has to be hooked up and/or on to build pressure. |

Thanks for all the comments. I looked in my hot water heater compartment and found them. How should I know there is water in my hot water heater before I turn it on? Is it safe to asume that if water comes out the hot water side of the faucet the water heater will have water and will not be damaged when turned on?

The low point drains just use screw-on caps. You can pick them up at Home Depot, etc. Plastic caps are probably best, but metal caps will work too. They are the same as the cap on the water tank drain, which I don't think is what you're talking about, but it's not really clear.
You might find the caps in a drawer or other storage area. TT |

When I got mine, the cap for the fresh water tank drain was sitting in the hot water heater compartment. Check there. It is a convenient place. It should be a black plastic screw cap.

As far as I know there are no shutoff valves to the fresh water tank (except the bypass to the hot water tank). The 177 we own has a cap that screws on the end of a nipple near the bottom of the water tank.

Hello,
I just bought a 2016 R Pod 179 and picked it up by having the dealer deliver it half way from where I live. The driver that delivered it didn't know much about it and couldn't answer many questions. It had been winterized and I was trying to get water in the system but it keeps draining out the low water drain. Where is the shutoff valve or does it just use caps on the end of the drain? If it just uses caps, I need to get the dealer to send me some because it didn't come with any. |
