Topic: 179 found another leak spot/future wood rot Posted: 05 Jul 2014 at 12:56pm |
That is why Arctic Fox has some of the best customer satisfaction ratings in the RV business, they cost more but you are buying a quality trailer. Outdoor RV a division of Nash is a company I like but you never see them on the East coast. I think it all comes down to profit the manufactures do not want to pay for well trained and skilled laborers and buyers do not want or can afford a higher price RV. The laborers work at a high rate of speed and somethings you need time to do the job the right way. "Haste makes Waste"

I met a guy in a campground who had an Arctic Fox I think it was. He was telling me he took a factory tour and they had a policy that if a worker found a defect he would get $20. That would be a great QC method- have the workers themselves scrutinize each camper as it comes down the line, and they would do that very well with the financial incentive. Presumably when a defect was found the $20 was taken from the person's pay who performed that task improperly, although I'm not sure they could actually do that- but I'm sure they would fire them if it happened too often. I'm also pretty sure having to repair anything under warranty once it is sold costs substantially more than $20. Every defect I've reported here would have cost nothing to have done right the first time.

I looked at new Vibes on a dealers lot that just arrived from the factory. There was a lot of exposed wood on one about one square foot the water proof fabric was cut for electric wires to pass through and was just hanging loose. Its the workers they are in a big rush and trailers are not inspected before leaving the factory. I guess they leave the inspections up to the dealers and hope they do the necessary repairs. If the dealers do not do the repairs it's left up to the buyer.

This is basic RV kindergarten level, you don't go chopping through weatherproofing and then leave wood exposed on the exterior. If they have to be told that...then they need to seriously step up their quality control As for telling them about it- If they don't have someone reading these forums they are pretty clueless/uncaring, whatever you want to call it Besides my experience contacting FR has been less than pleasant. When I contacted them about my countertop issue- I was told it would take 2 weeks to get a replacement to a dealer. Yeah right- been 5 weeks and still waiting

May I point out the 179 is a brand new model, I wonder if you might try to contact them, and they can try to address it in future production..

I was crawling around under my 179 today and saw the exposed wood in the pic. Highly unacceptable workmanship- glad I found it before any damage (I hope) has been done, sealed it up with silicone sealant. This was like this at BOTH ends of the step..and with the door being behind the wheel, this area gets hammered with road spray. Everyone may want to check theirs I used to think the worst workmanship was on my 99 Thor Tahoe toy hauler- but unfortunately FR is trying to win the penant..
