We went to Straits State Park in Saint Ignace and it was great! It was our first time at that particular park and I highly recommend it. It was very quiet, was right on the lake shore and had awesome views of the Mackinac bridge. As far as bugs were concerned, there were only a few mosquitos at night but not bad at all. We were able to sit by the campfire and not get buzzed! We are going to do many more trips to the UP when we can but have to fit them in around the school schedule for the kids and work. Also, being from Southeast Michigan it's kind of a hike to get up there.
Our next adventure will be Petoskey State Park in early October. I'm hoping that mother nature will start to display her fall colors at that time. Michigan sure does put on a great show in the fall

There are lots of neat places. I wish I could recall the names of the places we stayed. One was near Crisp Point Lighthouse. There was a great one on the west shore of Lake Michigan that has a spectacular view of the sunrise over the lake. We never had a bad experience in the UP, except for the bugs.

Would love to head back up to the UP. Have not been camping up their for many years. What part did you go? Love to camp late summer and early fall. Hope you had a good trip and welcome.

Have fun!! Keep pad and pen nearby on this adventure, so you can write down any mods or items you want to add to your pod. We have had ours for over a year and still, we keep a list! We also use that list for items we realize we DON'T need.

We are almost ready to take off for our maiden voyage! The pod is packed, kids are ready and the dog is anxious to ride in the truck. Looking forward to the North woods of Michigan's Upper Penninsula!
