We have a stack of thick hand towels and bath mats that can be machine washed and dried. We use them as bath mats and as floor coverings. Sometimes we add an anti-slip piece of rubber netting underneath, but so far we have been easily able to keep them clean during extended trips at the campground laundromat if needed.
The plus is that we can wash out this icky NE pine sap that gets in everything and gets tracked in.
I was also thinking of cutting up some old kitchen "gel" mats and putting them under the terry mats for extra warmth and cushioning while still being easy to clean.

I installed a custom fit carpet to insulate the floor. After a season of camping and constantly having sandy grit underfoot, we threw it out and replaced the full carpet with a couple of shorter runners. We subsequently replaced them with even smaller 'throw' rugs. So much easier to clean and mop up spills. I can pick up a rug and shake it out. The smooth floor is clean with just a couple of broom sweeps or a quick mopping. We don't have to haul a AC or DC powered vacuum anymore. Just a small broom, dustpan, and small mop.

We're very happy with our carpet, the dogs are much happier as well with it. Next time we buy a cheap remnant piece though we'll shop around and buy a nicer cheap remnant piece though is all.

We keep a dust buster plugged in and stored under the bunk. Just takes 30 sec. to vacuum the whole camper. We would both just trip on carpet and Max would bunch throw rugs up to sleep on so they are not practical for us. You just need to figure out what works for you and your camping style. Good luck.

I agree with Outbound. I find I am constantly sweeping the floor even though we take off our shoes at the door either outside or inside on the door mat. The door mat has been washed several times because of mud from camping in wet weather. We also carry a couple of those interlocking foam mats to throw down outside below the step. They seem to help with the tracked-in dirt and are easily hosed off. A small mat that can be thrown in the washer seems more practical to me. B

Ours are those spoiled house dog types. They are rather offended by dog beds on the floor when theres a perfectly good human bed to be sprawled out onto. I'll have to report back on the dirt being tracked in later once we get the carpet. We're usually pretty careful about being clean before we enter, no shoes in the Pod, no dirty hiking clothes or dirty puppies. So except for times when we're at the beach I hope it won't get too dirty.

Well we are headed to the remnant warehouse tomorrow to see what we can find. My DW brings the Dyson out to the Pod after every trip now already and vacuums the whole thing and then mops. This would at least save her the mopping step!
