There was a house on the island.  It was a 2 story house.  After the owner left a widow with 5 or 6 kids squatted in it for some time.  Then one day the kids flagged down a boat because their mother had died.  The kids were put in an orphanage.  The man that had built the house was a rich land owner from New York by the name of Fisher.  He planted fruit trees on the island.  That is about all I know about the island.

I'll send some warm air up your way for a week starting January 8th.  That is when the wife and I head to the Bahamas!Smile

I couldn't find much on the net so I guess I'll have to check with the historical society.

Nice pics of the eagles nest. Sure looks nice and warm down there which is what we could use.
Good luck with your treasure hunt.
I have been watching an eagles nest that I found last winter, it is at the 26 mile marker on the south side of I-72 in Illinois. As of last weekend the eagles have not yet returned.

Between Saint Augustine and Anastasia Island, along the river, is Fish Island.  Because of the lack of rain you could walk onto the island.  There are no houses just a bunch of trees.  Some of them are huge.  I drove the Jeep out there to get a picture of an eagle that is nesting on top of a BIG pine tree.  I walked up to the tree and I could ALMOST get my arms 1/2 way around it.  Here are 2 pictures of the nest:

And a close up:

Here is the well used trail:

Besides the nest I was looking for a foundation of a late 1700's guard house.  It is supposed to be visible if you know where it is.  I was going to use my metal detector on the site.  The problem is the under brush is so thick you can only see a few feet off the trail once you are back in there.  One area I just drove off the trail through the brush, but didn't find anything.  I'll have to get more information on its location.
