Topic: Introduction to the Merry Widow Posted: 09 Nov 2010 at 6:31pm |
Ladies...I'm impressed! I thought we were mostly a bunch of grumpy old geezers, here on the forum.

Welcome Taya! I am sorry about your loss. I am also a widow. My husband and I used to go camping with a pop-up. Last year I finally sold it and used the money for a down-payment on an R-Pod. One of the best decisions I have ever made. I love mine and I bet you will feel the same about yours. It is a great way to meet new people. Great picture!

I have been divorced after 30 years, and I have the 173. I go by myself all the time and just joined a group call Sisters on the Fly. Great group of women campers across the USA. Google Sisters On the Fly, they have alot of vintage campers but new ones are allowed also. R-pod Nation is having a rally June 26 at Kentucky Horse Park. Hope you can come.

I too am a widow and hope to be picking up a Pod in the spring. I just sold my Scamp which was just a bit too small for me. What size r-pod do you have? I could not tell from the photo what size your model was but that is great that you can pull with the CRV. I started camping alone - never had been in my life - never even been in a trailer! I hope we meet up at a rally some day.

Hi Taya,
We also purchased our R-pod from Can-am last fall and have used it alot since then. We are not too far from you in Burlington.
My mother, who lives in Etobicoke, is also a widow and has recently told us she plans to start using the Airstream trailer she and my Dad had again.
Safe travels,
Phil

Nice picture and congratulations on the parking successes! I'm sure you'll do just fine. The only problem I see is that the Pod isn't moving....it needs to be going down the road on an adventure!

Thank you for being so welcoming! It was wonderful to read all the responses. When I bought the trailer from Can-Am in Lambeth (you may have heard of them, they are known North America wide), they took me through a training session. They taught me to back up using mirrors only (I always use mirrors only, don't like twisting around) and I have successfully parked my Poddie four times now. What a feeling of empowerment! Woo Hoo! Everyone who toured my Poddie (by sticking their head inside) were duly impressed. It's not a come-down at all after the fifth wheel. Looking forward to learning lots from everyone!

Taya, welcome to the group! I'm so sorry for your loss, but I'm so glad that you've struck out on your own. There are a few women podders out here! I'm married, but I tow our Peachpod everywhere we go. DH is a college history professor, GIod love him, and he's happy to enjoy the scenery, read, or grade papers while I drive. I used to ride, train and show horses, so I've been towing something since I was 16 years old.
We've had everthing from small TTs to a 34 foot fifth wheel, so I know where you're coming from. We're really enjoying our Peachpod; it's so nice and small, and easy to hitch up and tow. We're camping more now, than when we had our big rigs!
You've already taken the first step - Florida's totally doable next year! Go for it!!

This will help you squeeze through tight spots in traffic until you get used to the width. |
While your back at driving school try this "put a hand bottom center of the steering wheel, when you move the steering wheel to the left your pod will go left (provided your vehicle is in reverse), and the same to the right.
Welcome to the Forum from another single traveler.
