To answer your other question, that's not the way they normally work...as offgrid pointed out, the evaporator coils might be freezing up, and that is usually caused by one or a combination of 3 reasons:

High humidity and a too low setting on the thermostat

Low on refrigerant charge

Evaporator or condenser airflow restricted (look and see if the fins on the roof unit are all 'smushed' over, and check and/or clean the interior air filters in the ceiling unit)

Are you in high humidity conditions? There is a freeze sensor in the a/c which shuts it off if the evaporator freezes up. You have to recycle the a/c to get it to reset. If its cooling ok to begin with that might be your problem. You might be able to see if the evaporator is frozen up by removing the interior cover, not sure. Keeping the fan on high will reduce the likelihood of freeze up if you can stand the jet engine roar all night Wink

It did cool it, nicely. Went to sleep and woke sweaty. Couldn't get it to turn back on regardless of changing temp on thermostat unless I shut it off completely and turn it back on.

Did it bring your camper down to the set temperature and then cycle on and off?

I am a new RPod owner. We have a 2016 179. We just got back from a week-long trip. At night, I'd set the thermostat at 68 (it was over 100° where we were). It would come on, cool for a bit, then shut off and come back on (low) for a few minutes, then shut off. But then it wouldn't come back on unless I shut it off completely, wait 10 or 15 seconds and turn it back on.
Can someone explain to me how the AC works so it will come on and off like a house AC....or do they not work that way?
