Ahh... This has me thinking. Perhaps something like this...
I'm thinking the metal could be mounted with double sided tape to keep them from sliding around, shelves will keep them against the walls. No drilling needed.

I think the only 3/8ths plywood FR uses in the Pod is for the floor and the base for the bed. I still have some left over from taking out the top bunk on our 172. The underside of the bed was closed up with 1/8th plywood; still have some of that too. Take a look at any cutout in the wall and you can see the thickness of the wood/vinyl paneling. I used the 3/8ths under our new dinette seats, replacing 1/2" strand board that weighed double the luan. Always think of cost savings and weight reduction when considering the materials used in a travel trailer.

When I removed my bathroom sink (a month ago) and bought a piece of wood to match the thickness of the bathroom panel wall in my 2016 179. It was just under 1/8” thick. I just went out and remeasured it. I was wrong about the 1/16. Sorry. I’ll be honest, I was pretty surprised at how thin the panels are!

It could be 3/16ths. It is definitely not 3/8ths.

+1 done it and it works great. In my case, had to paint it white to match the wall.

I think the plywood on the interior is a little less than 3/8ths, but i could be wrong. I think it is more in the neighborhood of 1/8th. I suspect a typo by OG, who is usually very accurate in his measurements.

You can drill into the outside walls, just don't expect the thin interior walls to hold a lot. They are 1 inch thick, foam filled with 3/8 in lauan on the interior. If you can hit the aluminum box tubing it would be stronger, Here is a construction video to give you an idea what's in there.
