Its easy to remember once you know what you're looking at. There is a blue cold line into the tank and a red hot line out. Both have to be open to flow water through the tank. The bypass line goes between the cold and the hot before the water gets to the tank, "bypassing" the tank in the winter. When the valves are in line with the tubing they're open, crosswise they're closed. That's all there is to it.

Yes, there are 3 valves, and after some frustration, went back and started again. I finally figured out the valves...and I have hot water!
It's simple once you know how. ![]() Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions. Much appreciated! I'm going to take a pic and draw it out so no more confusion for next year after winterization. |

Who knows if this will work (posting a picture.) The forum software is absurdly obtuse regarding pictures. The summer positions are shown. For winter, all 3 valves are turned a quarter turn. TT |

Do you have three valves? If so, the ones leading to the top and bottom of the tank should be parallel to the lines and the one in between should be perpendicular to the line. Some may have only one or two valves. Someone who has one of those would have to give you the correct information about the valve(s).

Ok, I shut everything down. Hit the switch inside, CSI light came on, waited 45 min. Still no hot water but the styrofoam surrounding tank is warm to touch. In fact the plywood was as well.
I must have the valves mixed up but if I change them, I do not get any water from hot tap. It's not very straight forward. Not sure how to download a picture on here to show the position of valves. |

Ok. Here is the service manual. The dsi propane troubleshooting guide is on page 19. That should walk you through it. You’ll need a voltmeter.

Are you sure you have the winterizing bypass valves set correctly? The tank could be full of hot water, but if the valves are set to bypass you'll get nothing but cold water. TT
