I am installing one at the house to test everything before I hit the road, I get upset when I get to a campground and something is not working properly, that's the reason I am installing one at the house. I am using a 30 plug with 10g wire. The unit comes in a weather proof box that I am installing on the outside of my garage.

I had a time trying to figure out the correct type of breaker. I finally saw a label on one of the other breakers in the box that let me know the brand and type to install. One can't simply interchange brands. Square D will not interchange with Siemens for example.

Hardest part is getting the right fit CB (style and type), once wiring is in, plug and play.

Greetings: You also need a 30 amp 120 volt single pole breaker in your main panel. Use 10 gage with ground. The boxes are available at most Home improvement stores. If you are not sure on what you are doing, hire an electrician. I have one at home and the Lake cottage. Crankster78 R-179

I'll double-check, I just about know the circuit I use is 15A. But I didn't install it for the Pod. I just run an heavy duty extension cord from an outdoor outlet I already had. If I were going to run a circuit from scratch I'd certainly go with 30A. TT

The 15A breaker in my house would trip when I tried to run the AC. I had the choice of running a 20A or a 30A RV circuit. I chose the 30A circuit. I don't go crazy with it, but I have not had any difficulties running everything I want to run. I just don't try to do so all at once.

If you want to be able to do whatever you want in the Pod, a 30 amp outlet is what you need. I think it will run everything at once, but I'm not positive. It should, but that doesn't mean you can run the air conditioner, the microwave, a coffee maker, a toaster, a ceramic heater and a hair dryer all at the same time. I plug my Pod into a 15 amp circuit at home. It will run the air but not the air and the microwave. It will run everything else I've tried to run, but I don't go nuts. And for what it's worth, I think everything that's 120VAC in the Pod is covered by the single GFCI outlet. Maybe not the converter.... TT

Okay. I can use my 30A outlet just like I would use a 30A outlet at a power pole. The point is that if you total up the amperage draw of the various appliances (AC, Refrigerator, Water Heater, Converter, Convection Microwave), the draw can potentially exceed 30A if they are all running simultaneously. I don't have our R-Pod here to check appliance labels, but the chart in the link lists ranges of amperage draw. Just the AC and the convection microwave running at the same time come close to maxing out the breaker's capability. Toss in the water heater and the converter trying to charge a low battery, and one would likely be over 30A.The key is not to need all items to run at the same time to keep the load below 30A. |

I have a 30A RV outlet at my house and I run just like at a campground. why would you not do that? Not sure what you meant, but no way I would have installed a non max use 30A considering cost. Mine's covered and all the same. No different than a campground. |
