Yep, those are the ones that will cause people to sweat. I have fibromyalgia and I need something that is soft and the memory foam helps me sleep better at night.

We just returned from Florida where we rented a beach house- The master bed had a 10 or 12 inch Serta memory foam mattress and it was incredibly comfy- but I'm sure pricey! Not at all hot, in fact I felt like it worked to keep all pressure points evenly distributed without "hot spots". I loved it, but John had a hard time getting out of bed because there was no firm area to push off the side. He said he felt as if the bed "sucked him in".
Not so, however, with the 3 inch Therapedic memory foam topper we have in the Rpod. Combined with our dinette pillows, we both think it is more comfortable than our mattress with a feather bed topper at home. Be careful, though, not to get a regular foam or an "egg crate" foam topper- they attract mold and mildew- horrible especially for people with allergies.

Our last TT had 5" cushions and they were great. We added a 2" memory foam on top and we were very comfy. I would say it would depend on your comfort level and the density. If you check on line for foam companies they will give you an idea what is best for certain situations. If we were to replace our cushions today it would be with the 5" cushions and a medium density. We do not like a hard bed. One inch can make a big difference. If you have a company that sells foam close to you, I would suggest visiting one and they will usually have samples for you to try. Foam for cushions comes in a few densities (eg...sofa, beds, RV's etc.)
Here is one web site to start at: (I just typed in "foam") http:///www.foambymail.com/ |

We're going to add a feather bed topper. The mattress if fine but I've been warned it won't be fine for long. I don't like the chemicalness of foam.

TerryM , we have a 6"foam mattress with the top 1 1/2 " memory foam. The 6" thickness is good for us we would"t need any thicker. I think that different foam mattresses have different foam densities they may have different support. A 4" may be good depends upon the foam and the weight of the one useing it. David

I have the RP-175 model R-Pod. I guess you could see that. But anyway, if I were to do away with the factory mattress, what thickness should I get?

We have memory foam toppers on all of our beds at home and in Rbug. Memory foam does not make you feel warm, it is your conventional foam that causes the body to feel hot and for some ppl sweat. Visco, memory foam, Tempurpedic are all made from the same material, and like conventional foam, they have a density rating too, which is why you will find prices vary. During my extensive search for a topper, it was recommended by many to get at least 3" to have the best comfort. We have 2" and 3" and do prefer the 3" topper. You can get 7" mattresses that will have a 2-3" memory foam topper on top of conventional foam. The Tempurpedic mattresses are solid, very expensive, and hard when you lay on them, but soften up some when your body heat warms it up. All memory foam toppers, when the weather is cooler, you will find them to feel very firm and then soften from your body heat, and when they do they are sooooo comfy and cozy. It is all personal preference. Good luck.

We added a 4" Serta Memory Foam Topper and loved it. We bought it several weeks before we picked up the R-Pod and never had an issue with odor. It was so comfortable! Don loves his afternoon siesta and always looked forward to laying down and relaxing. We picked up the camper in July and never noticed the bed being too warm. I would never want to give it up. If you get a good one, you will not be sorry! We purchased ours from Overstock.com and it was very reasonable and included contour memory foam pillows too.
