Topic: More Newbe questions Posted: 28 Sep 2015 at 11:27pm |
Two questions tonight: there's a sign on my 177 that says "check and maintain all seals every 90 days". What?? Seals where? 2nd question: two ways to add fresh water...hooking directly to the Campground faucet bypasses the tank?? So if I want water during the trip for short stops, I have to put fresh water in the place above, using a funnel? Is this right??
thanks!!!

I have been wondering the same thing about the seals, so hopefully someone else will chime in. As to the water, you are correct. "City water" bypasses the tank. Most people use this little item that connects to their potable water hose to fill the fresh water tank. (About 4 bucks on Amazon) search "water tank filler"

Watching a couple of intro to the 179 videos, they say the water heater can be gas or electric. But when we contacted our dealer about it and how to switch over he said NOPE, GAS ONLY. Tonight I watched another video on the 179 and again the dealer said it was gas or electric. Since we're not getting any assistance from our dealer, maybe someone here in the Forum can help us figure this out.

Go outside and remove the water heater cover. There's a little rocker switch in the lower left hand corner, partially hidden. It may or may not have a small cotter pin through it. Pull the cotter pin and turn the switch on. Make sure the water heater is full of water beforehand, and remember to turn the switch off before you empty the heater. Not the most convenient setup but that's it. Some people turn the switch on and then use the breaker as a switch. Myself, I added a switch with a pilot light to the inside of my pod.

I think some people refer to them as gaskets (?). Basically, you want to use a protective/lubricating spray on the flexible rubber tubing around the main door, pass through storage doors, slide out, garage (if you have one) and anywhere else they are. If you don't maintain them, they can dry out and crack causing them to need replacement.
I'm not great at the 90 days part, but I do it at least once a year. Takes maybe 20 minutes. Just spray it on directly or onto a rag/paper towel and whipe it on. Should look wet, but not dripping.

I spoke with a "Forrest River Rep." at the Hershey show last week and ask about the inspection of the seals he said it has nothing to do with the rubber seals but refers to the silicon sealant at the conners of the exterior. I'm not sure I believe him it just doesn't make sense. My dealer says it just means check the door and slide seals. Take your pick. It's a lot like asking how you should jack the unit up to change a tire they will tell you what you can't do but not what you can do.

Could you please give us the brand name of the protective lubricant you use on the gaskets?
