   I was thinking of building an awning, but before I reinvent the wheel, I thought I would see if anyone else has done a similar thing.  I was thinking of getting a big piece of lightweight nylon cloth, and sewing a piece of 1/2" or so rope into a fold along one edge so it would slide in the track that is already on the 179.Then set a grommet on each outside corner and get some tent poles, rope and stakes.  Might have door clearance problem so it wouldn't be the total length.  My previous tent trailer had one but I learned early on that in the western deserts, one doesn't leave it unaccompanied.  One also needs a short ladder or an upturned 5 gal bucket.

	Some owners have done it. There are also custom awnings makers out there. If you go to a sailboat shop, or use the web to shop, you can get "keder tape" will save you the hassle of that whole sewing around the rope thing.

	Try the 'search' function - this has been covered a lot. As a 'starter', maybe you should just try a 10- or 12x12 tarp?? I used hex bolts to attach mine but the grommets tore out in a big wind. Now, at the suggestion of a podder, I am using 1/2 inch 'sail slugs' (http://www.sailrite.com/Slugs-Slides#!Slugs-Slides) tied to the grommets. I think it'll work well but haven't tried it on a windy day yet. As an experiment, I'm blocking the 'upwind' side of the pod's railing and connecting the nearest slug to the end of the block with a bungee cord or length of rope to keep the tarp from moving under the force of the wind. 	I'm making an awning for our 178 using a tarp with rope sewn into the edge to slide into the C-channel. I have a 9x12 heavy duty tarp. Can anyone suggest what size to cut the tarp to for best results and shade / rain coverage without interfering with the door opening?

	I do like Pahaqua's visor, but it is very pricy. I'm still perfecting mine, just want to have a small cover for doorway in rain. Started with a clearance Pahaqua EZ up wall that I got from Campmor. I sewed a sleeve on short end for pex tubing that is held together with tent shock cord. This slides into the keeder rail on the pod. Sewed sleeve for collapsible tent poles for other end(away from pod). I am using webbing on ground to hold the poles in place. Since we have to store the pod away from home, can't test until next trip. I'll post pics when I put it up.
