Looking at the R-pod 196 and there is a wall in the kitchen area next to the fridge. Wondering what that wall is like and if it is hollow. Is it possible to pull the fridge and put some plywood behind the wall to make it stronger for shelves and kitchen accessories?

The wall you are talking about is hollow. I used hollow wall anchors to mount our shelf (see picture). The shelf holds light objects with no problem but I would not trust it for glass jars etc. I think your idea of adding support will certainly work but the refrigerator may be a bear to get out/in.

What about popping out the fridge, then add some backing wood to the plywood that makes up the outer wall?  The wall is not really hollow with two sides, but a thin piece of plywood stapled to the cabinet frame that is open on the refrigerator side.  When I replaced my fridge, not needing a sturdier wall, added insulation to fill up the space.

That is my idea. Pop out fridge (not sure how hard that is) and putting some backing wood along the backside of the plywood stapled to the frame. That would provide better support for some small shelves or a knife holder. Will need to examine the situation before moving forward.
