I use a "prop rod" to hold up the plywood decking under our bed. It is the same as needed to hold up the bench top as well.
I made a 1x1 piece of wood that is the right length to hold the bed bottom/bench up. It has a notch in the bottom to fit the bed frame/bench and the top has a short piece of dowel inserted at a right angle. The top fits into a hole drilled into the plywood top of the bed or bench. The top of the 1x1 is rounded smooth so as to not snag the mattress.
I also used 1x2 hinges for the plywood. I covered the hinges with pieces of nylon webbing so they don't snag the mattress.
Each pod will need a different length depending on the height and angle needed.
