I'm pondering cutting a video on tips for storing the pod for the winter. I have a few ideas to include, but would love to hear from some of our experienced podder's on storing the pod for the winter (after winterizing). Thanks in advance! (If I missed a prior similar thread, please point me there) ~JM

Pondering is good. This will be first year I can fit Pod into my building. I have a flexible plan. I will winterize and clean and wax exterior and interior. Once inside I will, raise and reduce weight on tires, support with jack stands. Plan is to use extension cord to supply electricity to run bathroom fan and small ceramic heater, maintain at 55 degrees. Big thing for me will be to rodent proof, one thing I have found that helps there is regular inspections. The battery will be charging as required -so need to maintain water levels. Really about periodic maintenance and inspection. That's the plan, we'll see how it goes.

Keeping in mind that I store my pod on my property. The Pod may occasionally be used for poker nights, football nights and the rare "time-outs" needed to keep 30 year partnership going, my recommendations would be as follows: • Keep broom handy to sweep snow from top of slide and path to man cave. • Make sure propane tank is ready for occasional heat and stadium dogs (boiled on stove). • Nacho recipe for microwave/oven. • Fridge may or may not be needed for cold beer, but it's important to make sure it's functioning. • Place sign on head (bathroom) door that it not to be used - plenty of trees outside. • For broadcast games, make sure TV antenna can get signal. Otherwise, use WiFi or run cable from house. • Make sure there is a good supply of paper towels. Other than that, I can't think of anything critical. fred |

Just a quick followup...
Winterizing a pod is really easy and fast. We often winterize/de-winterize a couple or three times a year or even along the highway when going north or south. I use a custom air compressor thingy to blow out lines, but simply draining @ low points and sucking a gallon of (RV) antifreeze after turning the well referenced valves in proper position is easy and quick. A cup or so of antifreeze in drain traps and you're all set! Really doesn't take more that 30 minutes. Takes more time to make the nachos than it does to winterize. fred |

This is year 7 for us storing our 177 in our old horse barn. We pull out both batteries, back it inside the barn, and put out a couple dryer sheets inside in case some varmint somehow got inside. Nothing else is done, tires sit on woodchips/sawdust from October thru April. It does get a thorough exterior cleaning before storing.

I know Twin Anchors RV in Colo, IA winterizes small campers for $65 and guarantees their work. If, for some reason, something freezes and breaks they fix it for free. I doubt that happens or they'd charge more than $65.

I'm getting my camper ready for winter and am going to wax it. My question is can you walk on the roof?

Search YouTube for a video. I found one for my R-179 that is great. Guy does a good job.
Walking on the roof my RV maintenance guy said you could but he would be glad to charge me for the leaks he will have to repair. I took that as a NO! |
